Papilionidae Papilio polyxenes Fabricius [det. J.D. Weintraub]Peale's Identification: Satyrus alope [F] Measurements: FWL = 33.8 mm (wing slightly curled) Comments: [sleeve of box is mislabeled "North American Satyridae"; "Alope Canthus Eurythrus"]; All specimens in box originally ID'ed as Papilio troilus, troilus crossed out and asterias penciled in.  Note: Multiple specimens on one cork are given letters starting with a in the top center, with letters increasing (b, c, d, etc) clockwise around the cork or mica sheet. If there is no specimen in the top center, the first specimen encountered when moving clockwise around the cork from the top center is specimen a, the second specimen b, etc.Specimen 1a in Peale Box 89, Box 89 data: "North American Papilio; 89; Troilus" [= Papilio (Pterourus) troilus ] [no title on index] Mounted: 1877-1880 |
