Remarks
ANSP 397075
remarks Abundant; thousands recently dead and dying on beach. Massive mussel die-off apparently due to recent introduction and infestation of Dreissena polymorpha, dozens of which were attached to the dorsal posterior end of valves of L. siliquoidea (= L. radiata luteola, = L. radiata siliquoidea) and far lesser numbers of a few other species. Mussels may have become dislodged from substrate in lake and were subsequently washed onto upper beach by storm waves. Sample valves in family Unionidae under Lampsilis siliquoidea; bulk of material in family Dreissenidae under Dreissena polymorpha. Dreissena material comprises two drawers.
