Remarks
ANSP 399804
remarks Original data states "Two weeks after the blizzard of '96. Large numbers of Spisula solidissima still left on beach in ridges & waves & broad piles up to 2' deep. Many tons of sand washed out, exposing banks of peat (former salt marsh) riddled with dead Petricola pholadiformis. Lunatia, plus Polinices duplicates, Busycon canaliculatum, B.carica & some battered Ensis directus were mixed in the piles. This location was not accessible to 4-wheel drive vehicles, so more whelks were available than 30-38th st, our other locations. We collected every Lunatia that we spotted, but only a few Polinices duplicatus, which frankly I was sick of cleaning. They were present in the hundreds (thousands?)
